BAA vs. BABA – What’s the Difference?
Navigating federal procurement requirements is essential when specifying lighting for government-funded projects.
The Buy American Act (BAA) applies to direct federal purchases. Under BAA, products must be manufactured in the U.S., and at least 50% of the cost of their components must come from domestic sources. This requirement is typically seen in federal agency procurement contracts.
The Build America, Buy America Act (BABA), introduced as part of the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act (IIJA), applies more broadly to infrastructure projects funded by federal dollars—including state or local projects that receive federal grants. BABA enforces stricter domestic content rules, requiring that all manufacturing processes occur within the United States.
To support these project requirements, Aleo Lighting offers select luminaires that can be configured to meet either BAA or BABA compliance, helping ensure you meet federal guidelines with confidence.
